Overview
In response to COVID-19 distancing requirements, and providing an isolated workspace for vulnerable employees, the Royal North Shore Hospital undertook a rapid new fit-out on level 14 of the Kolling building, located at the St. Leonards campus.
Scope
Ekeohm were engaged to construct the communications services of the new office floor, which involved new fibre optic backbone cabling, racks & equipment, UPS system and over 250 structured Cat6A horizontal field cabling outlets.
Project challenges
The primary challenge experienced with the delivery of this project was the compressed construction schedule, which involved the demolition & strip-out of an existing floor, and total refurbishment, al of which had to be completed within an 8-week construction window to practical completion.
How we managed this
Ekeohm managed this challenge by holding early coordination meetings with other trades and the hospital, to identify any potential scope gap, design issues or constructability clashes. Ekeohm utilised multiple shifts each working day to complete the project on-time.
Key customer outcomes
RNSH required the space to be constructed quickly, and with COVID control measures by all staff working on the project. The customer was able to move-in to the new fit-out on the planned date.
Safety & Quality
A strong focus, team involvement and management of safety and quality controls during the construction phase of the project resulted in a successful handover, with zero FAI, MTI & LTI injuries recorded and zero defects on practical completion. Some of the COVID safe control measures that were introduced by Ekeohm were adopted by the project, with all contractors implementing the practices set out initially by Ekeohm.
