Overview
In 2020, Chubb Fire & Security Australia completed a relocation project to move the entire Sydney based operation from their facility at Macquarie Park, to a new facility at Rydalmere. The project was phased to accommodate the relocation of various business units within Chubb to minimise as best as practicable any impact to the normal operation of the business.
Scope
Ekeohm were engaged to design & construct the low voltage electrical & communications works. The scope included a detailed load study of the existing facility, audit & design of load disbursement within the new facility, new distribution boards & sub-mains, new power, lighting, emergency lighting and communications services to serve both warehouse business units and additionally a two-level office fit-out for office-based business users.
Project challenges
The primary challenges experienced with the delivery of this project was the integration of the electrical & communications works that interfaced between the different business units during the phased relocation and construction period.
How we managed this
Ekeohm managed this challenge by holding detailed design integration meeting with business unit managers and the managing contractor, to facilitate minimal disruption to services once a business unit had relocated. Any outage or potential outage was planned, with temporary services made available for shutdown & cutover works as the construction progressed.

Chubb Fire & Security Australia required the contractors working on this project to assist their relocation and provide a compliant new premises to continue business trading, whilst not impacting their normal business.
Safety & Quality
A strong focus, team involvement and management of safety and quality controls during the construction phase of the project resulted in a successful handover, with zero FAI, MTI & LTI injuries recorded and zero defects on practical completion. With safety in design principles and group stakeholder workshops with a view to the normal operation of the business post construction, the new premises is operating with a safe, reliable and compliant installation.
